About This Opportunity
Latinx Therapist Project CO is seeking new members for its Board of Directors. The LTP Board of Directors serve a crucial role in providing oversight, guidance, and support to advance the organization's mission and objectives. This role involves active participation in board meetings, committee work, and other activities to ensure the organization's effectiveness, sustainability, and impact. LTP CO is a fiscally sponsored project under Colorado Nonprofit Development Center (CNDC), meaning CNDC carries all financial and legal fiduciary responsibility and liability however our board of directors continues to provide organizational oversight of LTP CO in assuring LTP CO is carrying out its mission.
About Latinx Therapist Project
Latinx Therapist Project CO is a nonprofit dedicated to increasing the Spanish Speaking mental health care providers serving the Latinx Spanish speaking community and empowering our next generation of Latinx Therapists through variety of initiatives in Colorado and Dentro metropolitan areas. We were founded in 2019 by Latinx therapists seeking to make change in our communities due to the impact of the mental health disparity among the Latinx Spanish Speaking community.
We are currently in an exciting time as we continue to grow and expand thanks to generous contributions from Caring for Denver Foundation and Colorado Health Foundation in efforts to build infrastructure to increase Latinx workforce entering the mental health care field throughout Denver metropolitan areas and eventually statewide.

We are an organization created and run by latinx therapists on a mission to increase mental health care providers serving the Latinx Spanish speaking community and empowering our next generation of Latinx therapist.
LTP CO Initiative Framework
LTP CO focuses on 5 strategic initiatives in efforts to increase Latinx individuals entering into mental health field in Colorado:

Recruiting of Latinx individuals into therapy field

Creating an educational database resource of all current college education opportunities in mental health field while also advocating for increase of funding at mental health graduate programs

Providing educational opportunities for prospective therapists to decide on mental healthcare specialty

Creating a Denver Latinx therapist employment database to connect Latinx serving agencies with Latinx therapists

Mentorship Program for Latinx individuals interested in mental health field
Board Roles and Responsibilities
-
Terms of Office: The members of the Board of Directors are elected for a 1 year term, with the option to run another term with board approval.

Meetings: Board members are expected to participate in meetings every month which are held, 3rd monday of the month-5pm-6:15pm (mountain time zone) virtually. This can be negotiated if this time doesn't work.

Committee Requirements: Board members are expected to regularly attend and actively participate in Board meetings, contributing insights, perspectives, and expertise to discussions and decision-making processes. Board members may be responsible for outside project work such as communicating with stakeholders regarding the work of LTP CO.

Time commitment: The role of a General Board Member typically involves a commitment of 2-3 hours per month, including attendance at Board meetings, committee meetings, and additional time for reading materials, preparing for meetings, and participating in relevant activities and events. The exact time required may vary depending on the organization's needs, priorities, and schedule of activities.

Overall Board Composition: We are a board of 7 members, 6 of us are mental health professionals. Board members do not have to be mental health therapists to participate and we actively encourage interdisciplinary members, community members to be on the board that are passionate about increasing Latinx therapists in the community. Our current board is composed of all Latino-identifying individuals, although this is not a requirement to be part our board! We ask board members be in alignment and passionate about our mission to increase Latinx therapists in the mental health field.

Geographic Diversity: We are looking for board members throughout all of Colorado as LTP CO seeks to expand its impact statewide.

Willingness to commit time and resources to fulfill Board responsibilities and support the organization's mission and goals.

Knowledge of nonprofit governance principles, legal requirements, and best practices is desirable but not required.

Desired Skills and Interests: General interest and support of the work LTP does is the primary criteria for selection of Board members. In addition to this, LTP also encourages Board members who demonstrate the following skills and interests but not a requirement:

Pipeline workforce development- experience in identifying pathways to increase professionals into certain field

Community Liaison- experience and skills in making community connections with organizations who would support out work and who aligns with our mission

General nonprofit management

Board of Directors experience and knowledge

Finance/Administration-individuals with experience in budgeting, accounting, and financial management

Legal knowledge working with nonprofits

Resource Development- Experience in fundraising, event planning and or/success securing private grants in support of associations

Communications- experience in developing and executing social media and other communications strategies

Compensation

The Board of Directors is comprised of dedicated volunteers who generously contribute their time, expertise and passion to help guide our organization’s mission and strategy. LTP greatly values each of our board members' time, commitment, and investment in our organization and recognizes their volunteerism. Without our Board members LTP CO would not be able to run. LTP CO follows the nonprofit industry standard of having nonprofit board members serve in volunteer capacity without financial compensation. In addition, nonprofit organizations must adhere to specific IRS regulations to maintain their tax-exempt status and board compensation is one of those regulations. As a volunteer board member we hope you will receive other benefits such as personal fulfillment contributing to an important cause and impacting communities, building relationships with like minded people, further develop leadership skills, professional development, and being able to leave a lasting impact by helping shape LTP CO’s direction, strategy, and impact.
